FDD leader Edith Nawakwi is more of a joker because she has been appearing on the presidential ballot paper for more than a decade while President Edgar Lungu, a first timer, won the 2015 election with a huge margin, says Patriotic Front (PF) national youth chairman Steven Kampyongo.
Ms Nawakwi has alleged that President Edgar Lungu is a political joke who does not deserve five years in office.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Kampyongo said the PF did not spend sleepless nights over Ms Nawakwi’s utterances because the ruling party did not consider her a political factor.
He said the PF only considered Ms Nawakwi a big joke as she had continued to appear on the presidential ballot paper for more than a decade without success.
Mr Kampyongo said the party was alive to the fact that women had joined the political equation and were doing considerably well but said not even the fertilizer that Mrs Nawakwi was distributing to would-be voters would help her in this year’s general election.
“If you ask me, it is Ms Nawakwi who is a joker because she has been appearing on the ballot paper for many years without success and President Lungu a first timer who had only a few days to campaign won the 2015 presidential election with a huge margin and he will again beat her.
“We know that she has been distributing bags of fertilizers but not even that will help her in this election,” she said.
Mr Kampyongo said Ms Nawakwi had tried to auction her party to the UPND and appeared undecided with her political career as she had jumped boats to make alliances that crumbled.
He said now that President Lungu had delivered development, he would beat her again in the August 11 general elections with a greater margin.
And Matero constituency youth secretary Stanley Kafula said it was unfortunate that Ms Nawakwi had continued to demean the office of the Head of State and has challenged her to go and see the support that President Lungu has in Matero if she could match it.
“As youths of Matero constituency we would like to express our displeasure with the remarks attributed to Mrs Nawakwi. We challenge her to come and see the support that the President has in Matero if she can match it,” he said.
