Pharmacist in forgery case

A Controlling Officer of a pharmaceutical company has denied forging a Health Professional Registration Council Certificate purporting to show that it was genuinely issued by Health Professional.

Joseph Siyeli Phiri appeared before Magistrate Greenwell Malumani on Friday after he was accused of the offence of forgery and uttering false documents contrary to section 342 and 352 of the laws of Zambia.

When called upon to take plea, Phiri told the court that he understood the charge but denied committing the alleged offences.

He is in count one facing a charge of forgery when between April 13 and 20 jointly with intent to deceive and defraud allegedly forged a document namely a Health Professional Registration Council Certificate purporting to show that it was genuinely issued by Health Professional, when in fact, not.

Phiri is in count two facing a charge of uttering a false document contrary to section 352 of the laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Phiri on the same dates fraudulently and knowingly did utter a false document namely Health Professional Registration Council Certificate No HPCZ/10/2/18/0285 to RIZWI PLUSTAVSER a CHIEF Executive Officer at Nec Life Pharmacy .

Phiri was granted bail in the sum of K 5, 000 with two working sureties.

He is expected to appear in Court on May 22 for commencement of trial.
