ZAMBIA is among multi-stakeholders in a committee formed to come up with an Action Agenda and an Investment Prospectus document which will draw on the many on-going activities in the country’s energy sector.
The document will also be aligned with its commitments contained in its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) on climate change.
The preparedness of agenda process was discussed at the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative (SE4All) meeting held in Chibombo early this month.
SE4All is a multi-stakeholder partnership between governments and international organisations aimed at doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency; and the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
The SE4All country action process includes several stages, in particular the preparation of an Action Agenda and an Investment Prospectus.
Speaking at the official kick-off workshop of SE4All, Ministry of Energy and Water Development permanent secretary Brigadier General Emeldah Chola said access to modern energy services was fundamental to human development.
Brig. Gen. Chola said the access to modern energy was also a collective investment of the Zambian future.
Speaking at the workshop in Chibombo early this month, Brig. Gen. Chola said Zambia embraced the ideas in the SE4All.
She stressed that Government was committed towards implementing and achieving the set goals of the initiative.
“Working together, we can achieve a broad-based transformation of the country’s energy systems and build a more prosperous, healthier, cleaner and safer country for this and future generations,” she said.
And SE4All Africa hub coordinator Daniel-Alexander Schroth praised the Zambian Government for its commitment to the initiative.
Mr Schroth stressed that the action agenda and investment prospectus process envisaged to bring together all relevant energy stakeholders in Zambia around a common set of objectives and priority actions with a view to mobilise the required resources.
SE4All is an umbrella energy sector development strategic document which constitutes a national response to the Sustainable Development Goal no. 7 on energy.
