THE Road Development Agency (RDA) should use quality paint for road markings on Zambian roads, especially in Lusaka, says Commuter Association of Zambia president Aaron Kamuti.
Mr. Kamuti wondered why the agency opted to use cheap quality paint which easily wore off after a short period of time.
He said because of poor quality paint, it was difficult to see the road markings especially at night, adding that the invisible markings had contributed to some of the road traffic accidents.
Mr Kamuti said his association was also concerned over the erection of ‘‘abnormally high’’ road humps on some roads.
He appealed to RDA to conduct a survey and ascertain the road humps that should be suitable and of standard on our roads.
He also noted that the demarcation of some roads were not properly done, and created some kind of limitations when driving.
And Mr. Kamuti has thanked the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) for launching a Road Safety Strategy for 2020 which targeted to reduce the road carnage by 50 percent.
Mr. Kamuti said in Zambia road traffic injuries had become one of the significant causes of child morbidity.
He said the development was disheartening because it was taking the lives of young people who could have contributed to national development.
Mr. Kamuti called on Government to adopt the ZRST’s road safety 2020 Vision and help reduce road accidents.
He advised commuters to report any lawlessness on the road and, where possible, effect a citizen’s arrest.
