UPND president Hakainde Hichilema should be ashamed that President Edgar Lungu has continued to ignore him despite the opposition leader showering a lot of verbal attacks on him from the 2015 Presidential by-election campaigns up to now, Patriotic Front (PF) national youth chairperson Stephen Kampyongo has said.
And Mr Kampyongo has said former Vice President Guy Scott was a spent force in Zambian politics and his decision to leave PF and join UPND together with others would not affect the ruling party in any way.
Mr Kampyongo said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that Mr Hichilema should be ashamed of himself that President Lungu had never responded to his verbal attacks on him.
The PF national youth chairperson was reacting to a story where Mr Hichilema was quoted as saying; “We cannot boycott the coming elections and leave the country in the hands of a drunkard whose preoccupation is socialising and going to night clubs.”
Mr Kampyongo said the unpalatable language and verbal attacks that Mr Hichilema had been unleashing on President Lungu were a clear indication that he was not the right person for leadership.
“My advice to the UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema, is that he should not look down on others and even use unpalatable language against them. He should change or else if he doesn’t change, it will be difficult for him to become republican President because in most cases, God picks leaders from those who are humble.
“So, calling President Lungu a drunkard, will not help him. He should learn that from the 2015 elections, he used to call President Lungu a drunkard, but it is the same person whom he was calling a drunkard who was elected republican President. Actually, he should be ashamed that President Lungu has not been responding to his verbal attacks,” he said.
He said most of the people who were leaving PF for UPND had no better reasons of leaving the party, apart from harbouring hatred against President Lungu.
“While others were leaving PF because they could not control President Lungu and make him do things which they wanted him to do, I can tell you that President Lungu is a humble, but firm leader. After winning the August elections, you will see that he is a disciplinarian.
“People will say all sorts of things about President Lungu, but I can tell you that this is one person you cannot hold to ransom. Why should Hichilema call President Lungu a drunkard when worse drunkards have joined his party?” he asked. And Mr Kampyongo has advised Dr Scott to keep quiet and enjoy the peace in Zambia.
