Comedians Association of Zambia(COAZ) say they are displeased with the proposed ‘Best comedian award’ promotion being conducted by Zee Music Creative Awards saying the awards have no blessings from the association.
Association vice chairman Derrick Kondowe popularly known as Dangerous Jorburg said in a statement that his association wishes to register its displeasure because the awards that are being promoted online have listed some of its members as competitors and that this has brought confusion. “The so-called best comedian awards have brought a lot of confusion and misunderstanding among COAZ membership as Zee Music Creative Awards may not even understand the different categories of comedy,” he said, adding that surprisingly the awards were also being organised by a music body without the consent from COAZ and the Zambia Association of Musicians. “And secondly, they may not understand the criterion of choosing the best comic and under which category because music and comedy are two different art forms.”
Kondowe said they have since asked the organisers to stop promoting the awards and apologise.
“It is against this background that we would like the Zee Music Creative Awards to immediately halt this award and stop advertising online and demand a written apology to this effect.
And we would like to caution our fans and the general public to immediately ignore and stop voting for this Award as it has no blessings from the COAZ as an organisation mandated to regulate all Comedy activities in the country,” stated Kondowe.
