ZESCO United were in no nonsense mood yesterday as they mercilessly butchered hapless Mufulira Blackpool 5-0 in the MTN FAZ super league week 8, to consolidate second place that will see them close the gap on leaders Nkana.
Zesco are now within earshot of fellow unbeaten side Nkana with just four points separating them on 12 and 16 points after four and six games played respectively.
ZESCO are now a point behind leaders Nkana.
Man of the moment was Kenyan Jesse Were who completed his hat trick in the 57th minute in a game played at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
Jesse opened the floodgate in the 37minute to put Zesco United 3-0 over Mufulira Blackpool.
The Kenyan international now leads the top goal scorers with his fourth of the match and his seventh league goal.
John Ching’andu created two goals for Were before he was replaced by Maybin Mwaba who provided two contributions within six minutes of coming on. At half time ZESCO were leading by 3 goals to nil.
Nkana only play today when they host Lusaka Dynamos in Kitwe.
