POLITICIANS are the chief architects of tribalism in the country because of their selfish political motives, Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba-speaking people has charged.
He said it was sad that tribalism had become a major problem causing divisions not only in Zambia but also in Africa as a whole.
Chief Chitimukulu said there was need for deliberate efforts to fight tribalism as the case was with racism.
He was speaking in Lusaka yesterday at the fundraising breakfast held at St. Dominic seminary in Lusaka where ills of tribalism were discussed.
And House of Chiefs Chairperson Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II said it was sad that 51 years after independence, Zambia was still talking about tribalism.
Chieftainess Nkomeshya of the Soli people of Chongwe said the church had played its part and it was now the duty of political parties to desist from political violence as they were the ones fuelling such acts.
