Our Saviour and Messiah Christ Jesus, called Emmanuel, God with us, was resurrected by the power of God Almighty Jehovah Jireh.
The body of our Lord Christ Jesus remained in the tomb for two days. On the third day, the angel removed the stone leading to the tomb. And on the same third day, Christ Jesus was resurrected.
As per their tradition, which is Zambians’ tradition as well, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see if some people had disturbed with the body of Christ Jesus, in any way. On discovery the body was not in the tomb. They started wondering as to what had happened to the body of our Lord Jesus Christ. As both Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were wandering about within the gardens where the tomb of Jesus was situated, the angel of the Lord appeared before them and said “Fear not, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. He is risen as he said”
The words said by the angel of God to Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, near the tomb, had the following significance: (1) “Don’t be afraid”. The reality of Resurrection is supposed to bring joy and not fear. The empty tomb was real and meant nothing else but resurrection. Doubting the fact of resurrection was therefore, totally unnecessary. When a Christian is afraid, should remember the empty tomb. Jesus is alive and is there to answer our prayer. And whatever we shall ask, it shall certainly be given. It is all according to our faith (Matthew 9:29). (2) “He isn’t here”. Jesus is not dead and is not to be looked for among the dead. He is alive among his people. Christ Jesus, was about to start showing himself to his people. Beginning with his mother Mary, his disciples and many more. That he did so as to remove any speck of doubt among his people about his resurrection. His resurrection was therefore, preached by his disciples of that generation, disciples of this generation have continued to preach his resurrection and generations to come shall continue to preach his resurrection to the end of time. (3) other statement from the angel was “come see”. The women could check the evidence themselves. The tomb was empty then and is empty today. Signifying that the historical resurrection of Christ Jesus is real. A fact never to be doubted. (4) “go quickly and tell.” Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were told to go and tell others about the resurrected Christ Jesus. To spread this joy to those ready to accept the good news. It is written in John 20:29, which says “Blessed are those who believe without seeing” Our generation therefore, is a blessed generation of believers, who have believed the resurrection of the Lord Christ Jesus without seeing. We too have the responsibility as believers in our Lord Christ Jesus our Saviour, Master and Messiah, to spread the good news on the resurrection of Christ Jesus.
The Divine Power of God resurrected our Lord Christ Jesus from the dead. Soldiers labored to seal the tomb. But the Divine Power of God, which is most conquering, did not fail to remove the stone to the tomb and save Christ Jesus from death eternal. This is because our Lord did not belong to the dead but to the living. Christ’s resurrection is the key to the Christian faith. Our faith is rendered useless if Jesus did not resurrect. No other so called prophet after him ever rose from the dead, the way Jesus did. We can therefore, be confident of Jesus’ ability and capacity to fulfill all his promises he made. On this account, we have seen his power and glory. All believers in Christ are witnesses to what happened in the tomb years before we were born. It is by faith that we believe, and the blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ are upon us. We also have the great confidence in our Lord Christ Jesus in his resurrection, since it shows that the living Christ is the ruler of God’s eternal kingdom, not a false prophet or just an impostor. As believers in Christ, we can also be sure and confident of our own resurrection, because our Master was resurrected. Now we know and are convinced that death is not the end, there is a future life after death. We also believe that the power that brought Jesus Christ to life is still available to us to bring our spiritual dead selves back to life. This is to come about when we confess our sins to the Lord and we believe he will forgive us, as we avoid deliberate sin. (Isaiah 1:18-19).
Again, as believers, we know that the resurrection of our Lord Christ Jesus is the basis of our church’s witness to the world. Jesus is more than just a human leader, he is the Son of God, to be praised and worshipped.
The difference between the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead (John 11:30 – 44) and many others who had life restored and as compared to that of Christ Jesus is that, the resurrection of Jesus brought about salvation to humanity, that is everlasting life to those who believed before, who believe now and those who will believe in the future up to the end of time (John 3:16). It was because of the love of God that God allowed His only Son, Christ Jesus to be born on earth and die on the cross because of my sins so that I can have life.
The Power of God did not let the soul of Jesus Christ to remain among the dead or allow holy Jesus to rot in the grave. God Almighty Jehovah Jireh truly showed us the way to life eternal and we will be filled with the joy of the presence of our Lord (Acts 2:27-28). These words were written by King David in Psalm 16: 8-11. He wrote them as a prophet. The divine Power of God that was to raise Christ Jesus was recognised many years before the crucifixion of the Son of God had to take place. In Acts 4:12, the Bible says “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved” it was by his Power and authority that our Lord God Almighty Jehovah Jireh, said in Acts 2: 34 -35 “For David himself never ascended into heaven, yet he said “the Lord said to my Lord. Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a foot stool under your feet” (Psalms 110:1) As said before, his resurrection was most conquering and all enemies of Jesus failed to hide the fact that our Lord Christ Jesus, by the power of God, resurrected and the chains of sin binding humanity were loosed and the pain of death was no more (Acts 2:24). As it is written “for Adam’s sin led to condemnation but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteous, for all who receive it will live triumphant over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ” (Acts 5: 16-17).
As believers we know of the suffering, crucifixion, death and the resurrection of our Lord Christ Jesus, our Messiah and Saviour as being to our benefit. Because of what transpired during that period, believers are assured of being resurrected at the sound of a trumpet to everlasting (eternal) life. The Divine Power and Authority of God Jehovah Jireh will cause this to happen. The death of our Lord Christ Jesus and his resurrection gave me a free passage to heaven, only if I believe. The arrangement that followed at the resurrection of our Lord Christ Jesus will flow back to us as we shall sing songs of praise and continue to worship Him only, as there is no other God apart from Him. Amen.
