NEVERS Mumba should stop misleading MMD members that the party will not hold a convention to elect the new leadership, but should just swallow his pride and ask for forgiveness from the party members for the mess he has allegedly created in the former ruling party, suspended Copperbelt MMD provincial chairperson Moses Mumba has said.
Mr Mumba said the mood of the general membership of the MMD was that the party should go for a convention to elect the party president and the National Executive Committee (NEC) members because the term of office for Dr Mumba expired on April 7, 2016.
The suspended Copperbelt MMD chairperson was reacting to media reports when Dr Mumba held a meeting in Lundazi and told the party members that the former ruling party would not hold a convention.
“Dr Mumba came through an extra-ordinary convention. The fact that he came through an extra-ordinary convention, does not stop the party from holding a regular convention. He was elected on April 7, 2012 and so his term expired on April 7, 2016. Dr Mumba doesn’t want to go for the convention as he knows he will lose lamentably because he has no support in the party,” Mr Mumba said.
He said the mood of the general membership of the MMD was to go for the convention. Therefore, Dr Mumba should not impose himself on the party against the wishes of the general membership more especially that the tenure of his office had expired.
And Mr Mumba has advised Dr Mumba not to vent his frustration and anger on MMD Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati because the calls for the convention were not coming from Mr Mutati alone, but the general membership of the MMD. He said Mr Mutati had visited Eastern, Luapula, Northern, Southern, Central and Copperbelt provinces where the party membership had unanimously resolved that the party should hold a convention to elect new the leadership which would rescue the MMD from the troubled waters.
“It is a waste of time for Nevers Mumba and his henchmen to attack Mr Mutati in the media over his calls for the party to hold a convention because it is not only Mutati who wants a convention, but all the MMD members
“I have visited six provinces with Mr Mutati. We have been in Luapula, Northern, Eastern, Central, Southern and Copperbelt provinces where MMD members had unanimously resolved that the party should hold the convention to elect the new leadership and take the former ruling party to its desirable levels,” he said.
