‘‘WE commend President Edgar Lungu on his continued call for peace and we hope that both the ruling political party as well as the opposition political parties will follow suit’’, says Southern African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) executive director Borniface Chembe.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Chembe said that SACCORD saluted the Head of State for his continued calls for peace and that it was important that both the Patriotic Front (PF) and opposition political parties adhered to his appeal with practical action.
“As SACCORD, we commend calls for peace whether from the ruling party or the opposition and we hope that calls by the President will be followed up with action from both the ruling party as well as the opposition.
‘‘Peace is very paramount especially as we draw closer to the 11 August general elections,” he said. He said that peace was a responsibility of all citizens and that calls for peace signify a political will.
President Lungu on Sunday during the commemoration of the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) appealed to the clergy to preach peace and love even as the country goes to the polls on August 11 general elections.
“As we approach elections, there is need for the RCZ flock and the entire church to intensify their efforts to preach peace and love to the people of Zambia as the foundation on which our forefathers laid our nation,’’ he said.
