Expelled members truant – MMD

By Nation Reporter

THERE are no factions in the MMD as those involved in perceived wrangles are expelled members, acting party spokesperson Reuben Sambo has said.

Reverend Sambo said expelled members were trying to create a perception that there were differences in the party.

He said this during the Millennium Radio programme dubbed “The Interview”.

Rev. Sambo said the Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati’s team comprised expelled members who did not have a say on party matters.

“Firstly, there are no differences in the party. What is being portrayed as differences is caused by the expelled members.

“Felix Mutati was expelled from the party and he has no say on any party activities” Rev. Sambo said.

He explained that the decision by the High Court to throw out an application by Dr. Mumba for an injunction to restrain other party members from continuing with their mobilisation campaign for the party to go for a convention did not re-instate Mr. Mutati’s position in the party.

Rev. Sambo said Members of Parliament who had decided to endorse leaders of other political parties would be replaced because the adoption process had commenced.

Rev. Sambo defended Dr. Mumba from accusations that he was running the MMD like a church organisation, adding that such remarks were coming from members either serving suspensions or expelled from the party.

But suspended MMD national secretary Mwansa Mbulakulima said Dr. Mumba had run out of ideas to stop the convention scheduled for May 20 2016.

Mr. Mbulakulima said the convention would go ahead as planned, adding that no member had powers to stop the convention because it has legal backing after the High Court dismissed Dr Mumba’s application for an injunction.

“It’s is too late for Nevers Mumba to stop the convention and as it is, he has run out of ideas on how to stop it,” said Mr. Mbulakulima.

Last week, Mr Mbulakulima announced that the MMD would hold a convention next month to elect a new national executive committee after the tenure of office for the Dr. Mumba-led executive expired earlier this month.

This was after the High Court threw out an application by Dr. Mumba for an injunction to restrain other party members from continuing with their mobilisation campaign for the party to go for a convention.
