Simataa eyes FAZ job

FOOTBALL administrator Simataa Simataa has applied for the position of general secretary of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and says he meets the eligibility for the job.

Simataa told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday that he sent his application on Wednesday for the job of general secretary.

“I can confirm that I have applied for the position of general secretary at FAZ. I sent in the application yesterday (Wednesday) and I will be waiting for the short list of successful applicants,” he said.

He said he met the requirements as stated in the advert that appeared in the print media.

“I do meet the requirements of the job as stated in the advert. I am a banker by profession and do hold a bachelor’s degree in economics. I rose to senior management back in 1993 at a named bank. I will wait just like any other applicant,” he said.

Meanwhile, Simataa said he was not facing any disciplinary action from FIFA or FAZ to hinder him from qualifying for the position of general secretary.

He said he was not a member of FAZ but that had nothing to do with the requirements stated for the position of general secretary.

“Yes, I am not a member of FAZ, but I am eligible to apply. I know the vice president Richard Kazala had issued a statement that I do not qualify for the position of general secretary because I face disciplinary action at FIFA/FAZ and was not a member of FAZ.

‘‘Well, I do not understand what disciplinary action I face at FIFA and FAZ. The life ban which was imposed on me was lifted in 2014. I am a clean man,” he said.

Last month, newly elected FAZ deputy president Kazala issued a statement that Simataa could not be considered for the position of general secretary because he was allegedly facing FAZ and FIFA disciplinary action and had no support of the executive committee.

Among the requirements for the position of general secretary include a minimum professional qualification of a bachelor’s degree in business management, economics, law, accountancy or equivalent from a recognised institution.

In addition an applicant should not have less than five years’ experience in senior management position in a reputable organistation.
