FOOTBALL administrators should sober up over the decision by the Andrew Kamanaga-led executive committee to advertise the position of general secretary and give the new executive a chance to choose the right person for the job, former Zamtel Football Club chairman Alfred Mwape has said.
Mwape said the decision to advertise the position of FAZ general secretary did not mean Kamanga had overlooked the FAZ constitution.
He was reacting to some football administrators that have challenged Kamanga to follow the FAZ constitution by appointing the general secretary and not advertising the position which was allegedly an abrogation of the rules.
“I wish to call upon all football administrators to cease fire on the decision by the current executive led by Kamanga to advertise the position of FAZ general secretary, notwithstanding the provisions of the FAZ constitution which provide for the president to propose the name of the aspirant to the executive committee for consideration.
‘‘I think we need to sober up and appreciate the reasoning and rationale in which Kamanga opted to advertise. I think as a person coming from the corporate world, what he wants is to cast the net wide and possibly get the best candidate for the good of the game,” he said.
Mwape said people should appreciate that the process of interviews is a transparent process used in a structured corporate set-up to employ workers and should therefore give Kamanga and the executive time to settle down.
He said every leadership has its own challenges and therefore Kamanga needed support from administrators.
“Every administration has its own challenges including the past executive committee had its own share of downfalls. For those wishing not to advise the position, let’s not blow unnecessary trumpets in the media as a way to communicate our grievances, but we should engage his office using the structures of FAZ,” he said.
Mwape said he was confident that the executive committee will pick the best candidate for the job of general secretary through advertising which the stakeholders will be happy with.
The FAZ executive committee met last Friday and resolved to advertise the position and appointed Katongo Kabungo to act.
