POLICE in Ndola have apprehended a 50-year-old Congolese national of Sakania area to help with investigation into a truck they have impounded which is laden with more than 150 x25 kilogrammes of assorted mealie meal brands.
Copperbelt Provincial Police Commanding Officer Charity Katanga said the Congolese national had been identified as Petronella Kashiji and that the impounded truck was now parked at Masala police station.
Ms Katanga said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that the truck laden with mealie meal was impounded in Masala township at a place called Cairo.
“Yes, I can confirm that police have apprehended a 50 year old female Congolese national of Sakania area identified as Petronella Kashiji and we have impounded a truck laden with more than 150 x25 kilogrammes of various mealie meal brands which is now parked at Masala police station,” Ms Katanga said.
In the last two weeks, police on the Copperbelt have impounded more than five trucks loaded with mealie-meal destined for Kasumbalesa border post.
On March 28, police in Kitwe arrested four people and impounded a truck laden with more than 500 x 25 kg bags of mealie meal destined for Kasumbalesa border post.
The mealie-meal was loaded from a house in Kwacha township on Kazembe road around 21 hours on the same day.
On March 30, police in Mufulira arrested two people and impounded two trucks laden with a total of 1000×25 kg bags of assorted mealie -meal brands destined for Bilanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
