Nkana MP aspirant promises ‘big’

INDEPENDENT candidate for Nkana Constituency Ernest Mulebi has said if elected Member of Parliament (MP), he will construct a crusher plant where women from Nkandabwe area would be working to crush stones unlike the current situation where the women were using manual labour.

Mr Mulebi said he has always been touched by the suffering of the women from Nkandabwe area who earned their living through crushing stones.

He said it was for this reason that he would put up a crusher plant from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) where women would be working to crush stones for sale.

Most women in Nkandabwe area earned their living through crushing of stones which they sold to people  constructing houses and other buildings.

Mr Mulebi, who is former Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Nkana constituency chairman, said he was confident of scooping Nkana because he had a large following in the constituency.

“Regardless of the candidates other political parties are going to field, I will scoop Nkana and when I scoop the seat, I will set the stage for development in the area. To start with, my heart is with the poor people of Nkandabwe, Armco and other compounds in the constituency.

“So one of the things I want to do, if am voted as MP, is to construct a crusher plant where those women from Nkandabwe area who crush stones with their hands will be working from. Yes, instead of crushing stones on the roadside with their hands they will use a machine,” Mr Mulebi said. He said once voted as MP he would continue to lobby Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) and other mining companies to increase their corporate social responsibility (CSR) so that people benefitted from their mining operations in Nkana constituency. Mr Mulebi said it was only fair that mining companies genuinely ploughed back into the communities so that the people could feel proud of being citizens of a mining country.

“Among other things I will do after being elected MP for Nkana is to sit down with MCM and other mining companies so that we see how we can work together to improve people’s lives. I will ask them to increase on their CSR,” he said.
