THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has recorded 1, 695,580 new registrations and will within the next two weeks begin the distribution of non-security election materials to all districts in readiness for the August 11 general elections, says ECZ public relations manager Crispin Akufuna.
He said in a statement yesterday that the ECZ also had 1,634,288 updates with 51,998 notifications of deceased voters.
Mr Akufuna said this was in the exercise conducted between September 14, 2015 to February 29, 2016.
He said that ECZ in the next two weeks would begin the distribution of non-security election materials such as ballot boxes and wire trays to all districts around the country in readiness for this year’s general elections to ensure that materials were delivered on time.
“The public is further informed that the commission will within the next two weeks begin the distribution of non-security election materials which include ballot boxes and wire trays to all districts in Zambia in readiness for the 11th August 2016 general elections.
This is to ensure that all election materials are delivered on time, given the large volume of materials that need to be delivered to all the 106 districts,” he said.
And Mr Akafuna had also revealed that the preparations for holding of the Referendum were on-going and that the referendum would be held on the same day as the 2016 general elections.
