Kapita, 2 others cheat death

Patriotic Front (PF) member of the Central Committee Richard Kapita and two other members of the ruling party yesterday escaped death after the vehicle in which they were traveling overturned three times.

The three officials included North-western party provincial chairman Emmanuel Chihili and provincial party treasurer Aminon Hara

The three were travelling from Ikelengi district on party business when the incident occurred.

Speaking in an interview from Solwezi General Hospital, Mr Kapita who only sustained minor injuries confirmed that the incident occurred on Monday around 19:00 hours.

He said the incident happened 30 kilometers after Mwinilunga District.

Mr.Kapita said his team was on its way back from a two day visit to Ikelengi district.

“We concluded our visit to Ikelengi district yesterday but on our way back we had a tyre burst which caused the car to flip. Luckily, we were all wearing seat belts so even though the car flipped three times we all survived,” he said.

Mr Kapita said the PF provincial chairman who sustained bruises, minor injuries and general body pains is  the worst injured of the three.

He said it was by the grace of God that the three survived the incident. And North-western Province commissioner of Police Luckson Sakala also confirmed the accident.

He said the incident was due to a tyre burst which occurred as the officials were travelling back to Solwezi on the Solwezi-Mwinilunga road.

Mr Sakala noted that Mr Kapita and Mr Hara were out of danger while Mr Chihili was still nursing serious injuries and was still on observation.

And PF North-western provincial information and publicity secretary Edwin Sekelechi said the accident was unfortunate.

Mr Sekelechi said the accident would destabilise the identification process for successful candidates.

“The incident will disturb our programme for the identification of successful applicants for the general election because our officials will have to take a few days off duty,” he said.

Mr Sekelechi however noted that the party would be able to recover and continue with the process and ensure it was completed in time.

He said the party was hopeful that the officials would recover soon.
