TWO people died on the spot while 11 others sustained serious injuries when the bus in which they were travelling overturned after the driver lost control,allegedly due to excessive speeding in Mpula area on the Great North Road near Kapiri Mposhi.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said one of the two dead was identified as 51-year-old Ameshi Katongo while the other victim, a young woman, has not been identified as of yesterday.
Ms. Chanda said the driver and the conductor of the Hiace bus registration no. ACX 3648 bolted after the accident
“Two people died on the spot while 11 others sustained serious injuries in an accident which happened on 27th March 2016 around 17:30 hours at Mpula area on the Great North Road. Among those injured were three juveniles. The deceased have been identified as Ameshi Katongo, 51, and a female juvenile whose age is not yet known.
“The accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Hiace minibus Reg. No. ACX 3648 coming from Mkushi to Kapiri lost control and over turned due to excessive speed.
‘‘Both the driver and conductor ran away after the accident. The bodies are lying in Kapiri District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while the injured are admitted to the same hospital,” Ms. Chanda said.
