more than 73 Rainbow Party in Central Province including their provincial chairperson Mulenga Kabwe have ditched the Wynter Kabimba led opposition political party to join the Orange Alliance.
Mr Mulenga has immediately been appointed as Kabwe district chairperson.
He cited poor work relationship in the Wynter Kabimba led party as one of the reasons for his decision.
And Mr. Kabwe has disclosed that he would contest the position of executive Mayor for Kabwe in the forthcoming general elections.
Mr. Kabwe, who prior to joining the Rainbow Party was PF Kabwe district chairman made his decision, alongside other hundred supporters on Thursday at Marble’s Appropriate in Kabwe.
He boasted that he had skills in establishing new political parties and after seeing that the Rainbow Party was no longer appealing, he overlooked the decision to re-join the PF and indeed any other existing political party.
“I have joined DF and consequently the Orange Alliance. I am aware that DF has some court action but I have gone with Miles Sampa whatever the result shall be. I have skills in new party’s mobilisation and if there is no Orange Alliance branch where I stay, I will form one,” he said.
And Orange Alliance Central Province chairperson Dora Nkhoma who was at hand to welcome the defectors said her organisation was ready to contest elections.
Ms. Nkhoma has since appointed Mr. Kabwe as Kabwe district chairman.
But Rainbow Party Central Province chairman Clifford Ndhlovu has dismissed Mr. Kabwe’s claims.
“It is not true that he didn’t have a good work relationship in the provincial team but that Mr. Kabwe liked to work in isolation and could have led to the national coordinator Robert Chikwelete removing him from the position of provincial chairman,” Mr. Ndhlovu said.
