The people of Southern Province should not entirely depend on Government for poverty alleviation programmes but should show seriously in addressing their needs, UPND aspiring candidate for Sinazongwe Constituency in Southern Province Neddy Shanza has said
Meanwhile, Mr Shanza has given the Sinazongwe community a 540 egg capacity incubator and male Boer goat from South Africa all valued at K35, 000 as an empowerment to the local community.
Speaking when addressed community at Sinazeze on Friday, Mr Shanza said there was need for the people of Sinazongwe to show commitment in addressing challenges of poverty by taking up agriculture as source of income.
He said some people in Southern Province have been depending on government without showing any commitment that they could do something for themselves.
Mr Shanza said the people of Sinazongwe should know that their district had long been known to be one among major producers of goats, village chickens and fish not only in
the province but in the country as a whole.
He, however, noted that the quality of the products still proved to be
inferior with low breeding rate of chickens and fish in the Zambezi River.
“For this reason, I have realized the need to come up with this initiative of bringing to you the 540 egg capacity incubator worth K25, 000. This will empower you to produce chickens at a faster rate.
In the goat sector, am desirous to see people of this district produce hybrid goats that will produce not only quality meat but also more meat. I have decided to bring you a Boer goat from South Africa worthy K10, 000.
“These goats are not readily available in Zambia and few farmers that
may have them are not willing to sell them. This goat will rotate in
the wards for cross-breeding,” Mr Shanza said.
