Take a long, deep look at the cross to see God’s love for you
I greet every nations(tribes) reading this article at this very moment. Happy Easter and May God give you the joy that comes from the power of resurrection.
I pray that you shall not remain the same after reading this article in the name of Jesus Christ. My prayer is that God speaks to you in a radical way and always remember that one day you will stand before the judgment seat and you will be asked if you shared the gospel with others. Our goal is to disciple every people (nations) into Christ likeness .
Christ came to die for us on the cross , so we can have salvation and be saved from our sins!
Where are the followers of Jesus Christ in Zambia? If you are saying I am a follower of Jesus then don’t just say but do the Will of God by Sharing the gospel of truth to other people but when you share don’t ask for money in return . Please do not feel ashamed to disciple others into Christ likeness.
Now you ask why must I take up my Cross and follow Jesus? Will answer this question and other questions you may have concerning the cross. In the Cross I see three things: first , a description of the depth of man’s sin. Do not blame the people of that day for putting Christ to the cross. You and I are just as guilty. It was not the people or the Roman soldiers that put Him to the cross . It was your sins and my sins that made it necessary for Him to volunteer this death.
Second, in the cross I see the love of God beyond anything. If ever you have been doubting about the love of God , take a long, deep look at the cross, for in the cross you find the expression of God’s love.
Third, in the cross is the only way of salvation. Jesus said, ‘’ I am the way, the truth and the life:no one comes to the Father but by Me.” There is no possibility of being saved from sin and hell expect by identifying yourself with the Christ of the Cross. Many people don’t like hearing about the work Christ did on the cross because it injures their pride. It takes all self out.
Jesus invites you to “take up your cross…” That is often where we leave his invitation. But the next word that makes all the difference. The word is “daily”…”take up your cross daily..” every day we make a decision that we will die to ourselves and live for Christ. Dying to ourselves is not a one time decision. Its a daily decision. That is the most challenging part in our lives. But we have to daily die from things of the flesh so Christ may dwell in us.
The cross was a symbol of suffering . Before crucifying a criminal, it was common for the Romans to beat them the way they did Jesus. For this scourging, the man was stripped of his clothing, and his hands were tied most often to an upright post. The idea was that a person would have their hands tied around a post so that the flesh on their body would be stretched out tightly in preparation for the scourging. The number of lashes wasn’t what the Romans paid attention to; they were experts in beating a person just to the edge of death. After being beaten beyond recognition, the Roman soldiers put the patibulum of the cross, which is the horizontal beam, on the man’s back. This 125 pound beam was placed on his open wounds. Its no wonder Jesus had a difficult time carrying the cross as he stumbled down the narrow roads of the Via Dolarosa ( or the way of suffering). Taking up your cross and following Jesus can and will bring pain and suffering. You cannot carry a cross without suffering. But God has good in the end of your trials never give up on JESUS.
There is no comfortable way to carry a cross; I don’t care how you position it. I often hear people who say that now you are a Christian everything shall be smooth. There is all junk theology floating around Zambia that points difficulties as evidence that you must not be following Jesus. The biblical reality is that when people say yes to following Jesus, they are agreeing to carry a cross, and that will be painful at times.
There are number of scriptures that do more than hint at the fact that if you are following Jesus it will cost you something.
Luke 6:22: blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of man.
2 Timothy 3:12: Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
Phillippians 1:29: For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him.
Zambia these questions should keep us awake from our sleep : As followers of Jesus Christ are we really carrying a cross if there is no suffering and sacrifice? When is the last time that following Jesus cost you something? When is the last time it cost you a relationship? When is the last time following JESUS cost you a promotion? When is the last time it cost you a vacation? When is the last you were mocked for your faith? When is the last time you went without a meal for the gospel ? Can you really say you are carrying your cross if it hasn’t cost you anything? Take a second and answer that question in your mind. Has it cost you anything? If there is no sacrifice involved , if you are not at least a little uncomfortable, then there is a good chance that you aren’t carrying a cross.
Zambia the cross was a symbol of death. When Jesus gets to Golgotha, the place of the skull, the soldiers take the horizontal beam and attach it to the vertical beam to make a cross. His hands are nailed to the tree. Next the soldiers would have nailed the feet of Jesus to the cross.
Hours later a spear was thrust into his side to confirm his death. Jesus invites followers to die to themselves. We die to our own desires, our pursuits, and our plans. When we become followers of Jesus, that is the end of us.
Jesus makes it clear that following him means taking up your cross and dying to yourself. That is what a follower is committing to. Unfortunately, many churches in Zambia today have decided that this message is too uncomfortable to people manly those who give the seed. The cross is too offensive. As a result, there are many people who call themselves Christians, but they are not carrying a cross.
I know that is the hardest part of carrying your cross..it’s so daily. The Bible is so clear on this topic church, we need to know what the Scripture affirms and in doing so we become doers of the scriptures.
For some of the hypocrites none of this makes sense to them. In fact, in 1 Corinthians1:18 Paul wrote.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the Power of God.
Remember something dear brother or sister , the cross and only the cross of Christ gives us power from above..To the hypocrites and those who do not believe in Jesus , this message about the cross is vain, foolishness to them.
I pray that you resolve to follow the Jesus of the Cross , He is the only way of hope you have in your life. Carry up your cross this very moment and follow Christ with all your heart. Do not feel shy to preach the gospel to other people. For to those who believe in God , the cross is the Power of God. Resolve to sacrifice for the cause of Christ.
May God keep you, may God watch over you and your household. May God cause His face to shine upon you this Easter time and beyond . May God bless the works of your hands in the name of Jesus. May God fight your battles throughout your entire life. Every evil arrows that moves during the day shall not harm you and every arrow of darkness that moves during the night shall be far from you in Jesus’ Name. You are what the word of God says you are.
Make up your mind this Easter to move in the Resurrection power and join me in spreading the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For now God bless you and remember to share this message to other people. As our goal is to Disciple people(nations) into Christ likeness one by one. God is in the business of discipling nations into the image of Jesus Christ. Until this gospel is preached all over the world will the end come.
