State welcomes Mopani jobs

By Nation Reporter

Mopani Copper Mine is next month expected to announce three major investment projects that will see the creation of many job opportunities on the Copperbelt, special assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has said.

He said the Mining Company had already notified President Edgar Lungu on the development.

Mr. Chanda said President Lungu was excited because the projects by Mopani Copper Mine would coincide with the US$397 million Ndola International airport that would see over 4,000 jobs created.

He said the projects that would start in the first quarter of this year would change the economic status of the Copperbelt Province.

And President Lungu said Tuesday’s meeting called by the Catholic Bishops to discuss matters relating to the smooth campaign and holding of the August general elections should not be politicized.

President Lungu has said the meeting for all political parties has been called by the Catholic Bishops.

He said he was happy that two other Church mother bodies had been brought on board to moderate the meeting to be held at Kapingila House.

The Catholic Bishops have invited the Council of Church in Zambia (CCZ) and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) to be part of the meeting.

Mr Chanda said the President had agreed to attend the meeting because the concept letter prepared by the Catholic Bishops was in conformity with his plans.

And Mr. Chanda said the President was disturbed that former Vice President Guy Scott could be against the Church’s call for dialogue among political parties.

Mr. Chanda said the President had described as unfortunate  Dr. Scott’s utterance in some media publication.

Dr Scott was quoted saying if the Head of State could not stop the violence, he should resign.
