ZAMBIAN 2016 CAF Confederation Cup representatives Zanaco begin their chase for the MTN/FAZ Super League title against Lusaka Tigers in a double-header at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka this afternoon.
This will be Zanaco’s opening match of the season while Tigers already have three points having beaten Nchanga Rangers 1-0 in the Week one fixture a fortnight ago.
Zanaco will be going into this game technically and tactically well prepared coming from a 3-1 victory over Harare City of Zimbabwe in the first round, final leg of the Confederation Cup played two weeks ago.
The bankers progressed to the next round of the Confederation Cup on a 5-2 aggregate score line over Harare City having beaten the Zimbabwean side 2-1 in the first leg.
The Mumamba Numba tutored side Zanaco is pitted among the favourite teams to win the 2016 Super League title and they will definitely play for a win in their opening match of the season.
Numba said, “We will go into this game to win, but we will not underrate Tigers. The players are in form and ready for the task. Our target is to win the title this season,”
However, Zanaco will be without the services of goalkeeper Racha Kola, midfielder Isaac Chansa and Salulani Phiri who are with the Chipolopolo that faces Congo in a 2017 Gabon African Cup of Nations Group E qualifier in Brazzaville.
Skipper Ziyo Tembo and Davy Daka are expected to replicate their good scoring performance in last weekend’s Confed Cup match. Meanwhile, Lusaka Tigers coach Chanda Mwape has indicated that his boys are prepared to handle Zanaco.
“This will be a different game and hence the boys have put behind the 1-0 victory over Nchanga. Zanaco is a strong team and the boys will be conscious,” he said.
Meanwhile, the first double header match at Sunset Stadium will see Lusaka Dynamos clash with the “Magnificent” Kabwe Warriors. Lusaka Dynamos will be hoping to maximise their points after winning their first season match against Mufulira Black pool with a 1-0 score.
Although Kabwe Warriors just bounced back to Super Division, they may pull a surprise owing to their good performance in Division One last year.
In other fixtures, Nakambala Leopards face Forest Rangers, , Lumwana Radiants vs Red Arrows, Mufulira Wanderers vs Nkwazi, Nkana vs Green Eagles, Napsa Stars vs Zesco United, Green Buffaloes vs Mufulira Black pool and Power Dynamos vs Nchanga Rangers.
