WORKS on the construction of roads in Kapwepwe Ward 25 in Lusaka’s Matero constituency is expected to commence in June and may cover areas such as George, Desai and Paradise, councillor Maurice Piyo has said.
Mr. Piyo said he had a meeting with officials from the Road Development Agency (RDA) who confirmed the development.
He said the project was under Government’s L400 project and would be done by Avic.
“RDA’s contractor Avic will soon start road works in my ward; I am very happy that finally Kapwepwe will also see tarmac roads they have never seen for decades.
“The roads include Baobab Road that passes from Chocolate Corner to Lesa Wamaka via Lilanda police post, Bancroft Road also popularly known as Mukulukumba Road from the bridge to Chunga junction among others,” he said.
Mr. Piyo said the programme would run up to July 2017 and expressed confidence that the contractor would do a commendable job.
“We expect them to do a good job, am confident that they will tar the roads to high standard,” he said.
Mr. Piyo said the roads would mean a lot to the people of Kapwepwe ward as there were no good roads in the area.
He implored RDA to keep to their timelines and give the people of Kapwepwe ward their fair share of development they had been demanding.
“The roads will mean a lot to the people here, and we hope that the construction works will be complete on time.
“We want our people to have good roads like other wards; areas like Chalala which they pay much attention to are new compared to Desai, Paradise and George settlements which have seen generations but remain unattended to,” Mr. Piyo said.
