Orange Alliance secretary general Eric Chanda has vowed to take on President Edgar Lungu because he (Chanda) is a fearless person and that he does not fear anyone apart from God.
Chanda said this shortly after he appeared before Magistrate Kenneth Mulife in a matter he is charged with defamation of the President when he allegedly caused to be published a defamatory statement in the Post Newspaper dated May 9, 2015.
Mr Chanda is alleged to have said: “President Lungu has no moral right to warn State House staff because the first assignment he undertook after his election was to go to Mfuwe to socialize, club and drink.’’
He said what the PF was doing was just a sample of what he would do if the Orange Party alliance took over Government from the PF.
Mr Chanda said the treatment he had been subjected to by President Lungu would be reciprocated.
He, however, said he did not take plea because the alleged offence in which he was accused of defaming the President must be sanctioned by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Meanwhile, Orange Alliance chairperson Elias Chipimo together with the Alliance leader Miles Sampa who were in court to offer solidarity to Mr Chanda also told journalists that the pact was there to stay.
The two officials said they were not going to be intimidated by anyone as they were not scared of any individual but God.
Mr Chipimo said the Alliance was not ‘‘sleeping but moving forward’’ until they fulfilled their dreams of removing the PF government from power.
And Mr Sampa said the alliance was unstoppable and promised his supporters that he would never let them down when the party takes over government.
Chanda, 40, is alleged to have caused the publication of the defamatory statement in the Post Newspaper of May 9.
The matter comes up on April 18 for possible plea.
