5 maize theft suspects in court


FIVE people have appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court for allegedly stealing 200 x 50 kg bags of maize valued at K30,000, the property of Food Reserve Agency (FRA), from the Gold Crest warehouse in Lusakas heavy industrial area.

They are Japhet Tembo, 38, of Lilanda, Phinias Phiri, 23, of George, Sidney Nswana, 28, of Mandevu, Richard Sakala, 30, and Zacheaus Mwale, 23, both of George compounds.

The accused did not take plea as they were still held in custody at Lusaka Central prison but are expected to appear in court soon before Magistrate Sheila Mweene.

The accused are facing one count of breaking into a building and committing a felony contrary to section 303 0f the laws of Zambia.

Tembo and four others are alleged to have on March 13, jointly and while acting together with intent to steal, allegedly broke and entered into Gold Crest warehouse and stole 200 x 50 kg bags of maize valued at K30,000 the property of FRA.
