‘My husband is a Casanova’

A HOUSE wife told a Lusaka local court that her husband, a truck driver is a Casanova who has married five women from his tour of duty.

This was heard in a case in which Tomaida Mwale of John Laing compound sued her husband, Lukas Zulu, 39, for divorce. The two got married in 1995 and have five children.

Mwale told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa at Matero Local Court that problems began shortly after they got married.

She pleaded with the court to force Zulu to compensate her for the problems she had gone through to bear him five children.

Mwale said she had done everything to please Zulu but to her surprise her husband  decided to marry five other women.

Mwale said that as a truck driver Zulu came home with a new wife from each trip.

“I am tired of Zulu and I have lost interest in him for he has mistreating me,” said Mwale.

In defence, Zulu said even if he married other women he took care of Mwale and that he only stopped when she told him to stop visiting her because she wanted to get married to another man.

He said however that he was ready to divorce Mwale because he was already married to another woman but asked the court to be given the custody of the children.

Magistrate Mumba gave Mwale the custody of the children and ordered Zulu to be paying children maintenance fee of K1000 per month.

The court however, did not divorce the couple because Zulu said he never paid dowry which her relatives were expected to come and confirm later in court.
