I HAVE withdrawn from my political aspirations of wishing to contest the Ikelengi parliamentary seat because I am serving the people in the district as district commissioner, Ikelengi district commissioner Victor Kayekesi disclosed on Friday.
Mr Kayekesi said he was comfortable with his position hence his decision to withdraw his application.
He said as a senior civil servant in Ikelengi, he did not want to antagonise himself by engaging himself in active politics while serving as district commissioner.
‘’I have withdrawn because I am very comfortable with the DC position. Of course, I had intensions to contest as member of Parliament for Ikelengi constituency and I had applied, but what else can I ask when am already serving the people of Ikelengi in my current capacity? Am very comfortable,” Mr Kayekesi said.
He explained that leadership is not just about being member of Parliament but one could also serve the people in various spheres of life.
‘’Leadership is not about being MP no! There are so many ways of serving the people and one of those ways is being a DC just as I am right now,” Mr Kayekesi said.
He thanked President Lungu for reappointing and giving him an opportunity to serve the people of Ikelengi as district commissioner and that the people of Ikelengi district were happy with his appointment.
“I really want to thank his excellence the President of the republic of Zambia Mr Edgar Lungu for once again appointing me as DC because it is not easy to be considered for such a position especially that I am a young,” he said.
