No PF MPs defecting, says Musenge

ALMOST all the serving Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament on the Copperbelt have filed in their applications to be considered for adoption on the ruling party ticket and no one is going to take the risk of defecting to the UPND because its chances of winning the election have become extremely remote, Mwenya Musenge has said.

Mr Musenge said the PF on the Copperbelt has remained intact and that President Edgar Lungu was yet again headed for another landslide victory in the region because he had demonstrated exemplary leadership.

Mr Musenge said President Lungu had managed to unite the PF at the most difficult time and that the ruling party had become stronger than ever and that many Zambians were willing to be associated with the ruling party.

He said the claims by the UPND that there were PF parliamentarians who were planning to abandon the ruling party were ‘‘nothing but utopia’’ because no focused MP would risk leaving the ruling party for the opposition.

Mr Musenge said in an interview yesterday that no single MP on the Copperbelt was going to leave the PF as almost all the sitting lawmakers in the region had applied to re-contest their seats.

He stated that the response from Zambians aspiring to participate in the August general elections under the PF ticket was overwhelming and that if there shall be any sitting MP who will choose to defect, it would be easy to replace such a parliamentarian.

‘‘Almost all the siting MPs on the Copperbelt have filed in their applications to re-contest their seats on the ruling party’s ticket and this means that no one is ready to defect. So the UPND can only continue to fantasize their growth on the Copperbelt,” Mr Musenge said.

Mr Musenge however said if there were some MPs on the Copperbelt who were planning to leave the ruling party, they would not be stopped because it was their democratic right to associate with any political organization of their choice.

He said the PF was bigger than any single individual and that those that would leave the party at the last minute would be replaced because the PF was a large family with a huge following.
