A 28-year-old Kapiri Mposhi woman has committed suicide at a church in Kafue town following what is believed to be marital challenges.
Kafue police station officer in charge Jason Lungu confirmed the incident that occurred at St John’s Catholic Church but could not give further details.
Police sources in Kafue identified the woman as Cecelia Mulenga, an employee of the Ministry of General Education – District Education Board Secretary’s office in Kapiri Mposhi district.
The sources said police investigations revealed that Ms Mulenga committed suicide apparently because she had been experiencing marital problems which resulted in her being divorced by her husband recently.
“Cecelia committed suicide because of stress and depression after being divorced by her husband. When we picked the body we found a 100 mils bottle of doom and a ZTE phone which she was using.
“We called one of the numbers in the contact which she had earlier text to inform him that she was going to commit side; the man who only identified himself as Munthali is the one who told us more about Cecelia,” the source said.
And Mable Banda, one of the choir members at St Johns parish who discovered the body, said Ms Mulenga attended choir practices on Saturday at the church as a new member from Kabwata Catholic Church.
Ms Banda said Cecelia was discovered dead on Sunday morning at the church behind a statue of Mary commonly known as Golota.
The body is lying in the Kafue District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
