ZAMBIA’s envoys in the 2016 CAF Championship League first round first leg Zanaco and Zesco United yesterday recorded clean sheets after silencing their opponents Harare City of Zimbabwe and Horoya AC of Guinea respectively.
Zanaco football club bagged three points after silencing Harare City of Zimbabwe (2-1) as Zesco United equally silenced their host Horoya AC (4-1) at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Aubrey Funga opened Zanaco’s score line in the 34th minute while Rodrick Kabwe doubled his side’s advantage from a free kick in the 80th minutes. But the home side (Harare City) pulled one back through Ronald Chitiyo in the 86th minutes.
Meanwhile, Zesco United football club’s Idriss Mbombo recorded a first goal in the 10th minute as Jesse Were also added another goal.
Clatous Chama scored the third goal in 37th minute while Maybin Mwaba marshaled a finishing goal in the second half.
As predicted by Zesco United coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina, his lads were focused on nothing but a home win.
“We have been training for a win, nothing else. The boys are not scared of Horoya Athletic and will not give them chance,” Lwandamina said prior to the game. And Zanaco coach Mumamba Numba charged prior to the game that Zanaco would not be intimidated by Harare City’s record over AS Adema and that it would be a different ball game when they clash with the bankers.
“The boys have trained so hard and set to secure victory on Zimbabwean soil. Yes, Harare City is a strong side but we are ready for anything,
“ The morale is high. Our target is to win the first leg so that the return leg is a formality. I have trust in my boys that they will fight to the final whistle,” Numba said.
