‘She turned me into a money making machine’

By Nation Reporter

A 44-year-old man narrated before a Local Court in Lusaka how his wife turned him into a money making machine and a slave.

This is in a case in which Sisala Muntali of Garden compound sued his wife, Mpundu Mwape for divorce.

The two got married in 2011 and have two children.

Muntali told Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Magistrate Lewis Mumba at Matero Local Court that apart from that Mwape also denied him conjugal rights.

He explained that Mwape got money from his account and squandered it with her former husband after lying that she wanted to buy food.

He said his sister spotted his wife at a restaurant with her former husband and came to tell him.

Muntali said that Mwape sold most of the items in the house and that he did not know where she took the money.

He further told the court that Mwape would send him to cook and bath their children while she sat in the chair and that she never allowed him to make love to her after they had a second child.

In defence, Mwape said that she did not want to divorce Muntali because of the children and that she was avoiding sex with him because he did not give her money for food.

She denied ever being in company of her former husband from the time she got married to Muntali and further refuted claims by her husband that she got money from his account as she did know his account number.

Magistrate Newa granted the couple divorce ordering Muntali to compensate Mwape with K7,000 and to be paying children maintenance fee of K250 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
