DEFENCE Minister Richwell Siamunene told Parliament in a ministerial statement yesterday that his ministry has concluded shortlisting applicants for the 2016 recruitment for military personnel.
Mr Siamunene said following the advertisement, a total of 168,119 applications were received.
He said as a result of the huge response, the service required more time to scrutinize and analyze the applications in order to ensure that the best qualified and suitable applicants were selected.
“The names of those who have been shortlisted will be publicized in the daily papers at an appropriate time and subsequently the candidates will be invited for aptitude tests, medicals and physical fitness tests,” he said.
Mr Siamunene dispelled assertions that his ministry was recruiting secretly.
“Through this August House, the public is therefore informed that there is no recruitment and secret training taking place in any of the services, except for routine and international orientation of staff,” he said.
Mr Siamunene said the public should, therefore, ignore any information which was contrary to his statement and which had not been issued by the Ministry of Defence.
In August 2015, the Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and the Zambia National Service had advertised for recruitment of military personnel, who include professionals in different disciplines.
