SEVEN people have applied to contest as Members of Parliament (MPs) for Kanyama constituency on the Patriotic Front (PF) ticket in the August elections.
Among the applicants is current Kanyama MP Gerry Chanda, Munkolo Ward 12 councillor Jiptus Mwanza and Kanyama Ward 10 councillor Aggrey Masumo among others.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Colonel Chanda revealed his intentions to re-contest as MP on the PF ticket.
He disclosed that he had applied and was confident that the ruling party would adopt him as its candidate for Kanyama constituency in the forthcoming elections.
“I wish to disclose that I have applied to be re-adopted by my party PF and I think I have done well and enough for my constituency; I deserve another chance,” he said.
Asked what would happen if he was not considered, Colonel Chanda stated that he would continue to work with the PF.
He said PF was the only party which had a clear vision for the people of Zambia.
“In an event that I am not adopted, I guarantee that whoever gets adopted will have my full support and I will not renege in my zeal to campaign and ensure that President Edgar Lungu’s mandate is renewed for another five years.
“I will still continue working with PF and I want to clarify that I don’t ever regret having worked under PF; for me it’s the only party that has a vision for the people,” he said.
And Mr. Mwanza said if adopted, he would build on what previous MPs had done for the constituency.
He indicated that he would re-ignite the hope that PF was a visionary party and was passionate about bringing development to constituencies that felt neglected.
“If at all I am adopted, I will carry on with the work that other MPs have left and also seek to learn from their mistakes. But most importantly I will help my party to regain trust from those who were losing it, they should not despair because PF has always heard their needs,” Mr. Mwanza said.
