ZAMBIA women national football team this afternoon begin their quest for the Cameroun 2016 African Women Championship (AWC) qualifier against the Brave Gladiators of Namibia in a first round, first leg at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium.
Coach Albert Kachinga has declared his players ready and he is confident of victory over Namibia.
“We have done our homework and now the onus is on the players to produce the positive result. Namibia is a strong side, but we are capable of recording victory. The target is to score as many goals as possible to be in a comfortable position for the return leg,” he said.
However, Namibia Coach Jacqueline Shipanga has charged that the Shepolopolo will fall in front of the home crowd. “We are here to win. The team will not take any chances but see to it that Zambia falls at her backyard. The team is focused to win and nothing else,” Shipanga said. Zambia will be without United States based Memory Phiri and runner Kabange Mupopo due to tight athletics schedule.
Kachinga will look up to Hellen Mubanga, Barbara Banda and Grace Chanda to get goals for Zambia. Captain Annie Kibanji is expected to lead a tough defence consisting of Anita Mulenga, Martha Tembo and Emeldah Musonda.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has called on the girls to put their hearts into the game to secure a first leg win. FAZ communications manager Nkweto Tembwe said; “We believe in the girls and what they are able to do. We encouraged them to put everything into this afternoon’s game. The Open wing is free to encourage many soccer fans to turn in numbers while the grand stand is pegged at K50,”he said.
Zambia lost 2-0 to Namibia at the 2014 AWC finals in Windhoek on their maiden appearance.
