GEOFFREY Bwalya Mwamba has claimed that he funded President Edgar Lungu’s election in the 2015 presidential election and that without his financial contribution; the Head of State would never have been in State House.
But the Patriotic Front (PF) has rubbished Mr Mwamba claims, stating that the UPND vice-president should stop bragging about his wealth because it did not contribute to the election.
PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya said Mr Mwamba should stop claiming that he bankrolled President Lungu because the only form of contribution to the ruling party’s impromptu convention were mattresses which were more than the votes the UPND vice-president could have contributed.
And PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya has reported Mr Mwamba to police for allegedly threatening that he was going to go for President Lungu’s throat over his arrest and subsequent charge of unlawful drilling of UPND cadres at his property along Luanshya Road in Lusaka
PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya said the ruling party did not want to take Mr Mwamba’s threats against President Lungu lightly and had asked the police to take keen interest in the matter.
He said Mr Mwamba had just been arrested for allegedly training militia at his premises where an assortment of offensive weapons that included machetes were seized.
Mr Mwamba claims he heavily bankrolled the Patriotic Front (PF) and that President Lungu was a beneficiary of his financial support he rendered to the ruling party.
Mr Mwamba said he bankrolled the PF and President Lungu was being ungrateful for allegedly harassing and persecuting him through what he termed trumped up political charges.Mr Mwamba said late president Michael Sata treated him with respect although he had differed with him (Sata) on principle and that it was unfortunate that President Lungu was allegedly persecuting him.
Speaking to journalists shortly after he was released from Woodlands Police Station where he was arrested and detained, Mr Mwamba said it was disheartening that the PF, the party for which he was one of its founders and for which he had financially sacrificed a lot was now harassing and persecuting him. He claimed that the decision to arrest him and other opposition leaders was a desperate attempt by President Lungu to hold on to power which he said had already slipped through his hands because Zambians had resolved to change Government after the August general elections.
Mr Mwamba charged that his arrest was nothing but a scheme to persecute and dampen his political aspirations but bragged that not even late president Sata would have done what the current PF leadership was doing to him.
“If President Lungu believes he has too much power, he must wait and see. He has just started a battle and I want to remind President Lungu that now I will go for your throat. The act of arresting me is meant to intimidate me but let them know that they are not going to succeed because Zambians are resolved to vote President Lungu out and replace him with a more caring leadership of the UPND,”Mr Mwamba said.
And Hakainde Hichilema has accused the Patriotic Front (PF) of creating political instability so that President Edgar Lungu should have a reason to declare a State of Emergency and postpone the August general elections.
Mr Hichilema who is UPND president accused the State yesterday of scheming to arrest a number of leaders and paralyse their campaign programme for the general elections this year.Nchito
