Bad eggs want Zambia’s control-Alliance

ZAMBIA has lost direction because bad eggs have been allowed to take centre stage in the politics of our country but we shall not allow the situation because we have a duty to rectify challenge situations, National Opposition Alliance (NOA) co-chairperson for administration Edwin Sakala has charged.

Speaking during the first ever press briefing for the 24 opposition political parties that have come together, Mr. Sakala said that the opposition alliance wanted to bring sanity to the way politics were done in Zambia because there were a lot of political players who did not have the interest of the Zambians at heart.

He said Zambia had lost its nationalist approach to politics because wrong people had diluted the very essence of unity that propelled the country to its independence from the colonial masters.

Mr Sakala said the experience the 24-member alliance had since all of them had been in existence since independence will provide issue based politics whose focus was to uplift the lives of Zambians.

“Unfortunately, there are a number of bad eggs which have joined politics which do not care whatsoever for our people but are only interested in their own selfish motives of enriching themselves. We will not allow this to continue and this is why we have decided to come together to ensure that we address these issues,” he said.

Mr. Sakala said the alliance was aimed at providing leadership and to eliminate any form of violence, discrimination injustice and to promote nationalism, unity and spirit of patriotism with emphasis on economic diversification from copper to agriculture.

Meanwhile, alliance co-chairperson for administration Alfred Sayila said the country had been mortgaged to foreigners by successive governments as evidenced by the massive reckless sell of land to the foreigners at the expense of the locals.

Mr. Sayila said the current isolated insistences of political strife has have been perpetuated by politicians who had no plan on improving the livelihoods of the people they were leading.

“It is therefore this insatiable appetite for money, power and influence which is the cause of political strife. If stakeholders do not handle this situation properly, Zambia is likely to experience the worst ever political violence,” Mr. Sayila said.

The Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM), Federal Democratic Party (FEDEPA), Zambia Development Conference (ZADECO), Humanity Party (HP), National Party (NP), Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) and the New Congress Party (NCP) are some of the members of the alliance.
