Wife murder suspect in dock


A 38-year-old woman of Libuyu compound, alleged to have stabbed her husband to death with a knife, has appeared in the Livingstone Magistrates Court.

Mervis Kakwesha has been charged with one count of murder contrary to the laws of Zambia.

On Tuesday, the accused appeared before Magistrate Benjamin Mwelwa for explanation of the charge.

Kakwesha, a business woman of D54 Libuyu compound who is currently remanded in custody, is alleged to have on February 23, 2016, stabbed to death her 36-year-old husband, Nathan Nyungu.

Magistrate Mwelwa told the accused in a fully packed court that she would continue appearing before him awaiting instructions from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on whether she would be committed to the High Court.

“You will appear before this court on March 15, 2016, awaiting instructions from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

This matter is only triable by the High Court and you will continue to appear before this court,” he said.

The particulars of the offence are that on February 23, Nyungu picked up a quarrel with his wife which turned into a fight when she allegedly got a knife and stabbed him in the ribs.
