Chief Resident Magistrate Aridah Chulu has ordered a state prosecutor to investigate a matter in which a Criminal Investigations Officer is accused of solicitation of K 500 from a suspect as a favour to be released on bond.

This came to light after Yotam Banda 32, a Plumber of Lusaka’s Zanimuone area who is facing a charge of obtaining money by false pretense told the court that he did not know why he was in custody because he allegedly paid K 500 to a Criminal Investigations Officer as a favour to be released on bond. “I gave a Mr Sinyangwe K 500 so that he could release me on bond, I paid him the money but I am still in custody,’’ he said.

Banda said this after the state objected to his application for bail on grounds that he had no fixed abode.

It was at this time when Ms Chulu asked the Prosecutor to investigate the alleged matter adding that the Officer must appear before her in the next hearing.

She advised Banda that she would only grant him bail if he met the bail conditions by providing his residential address to the court.

Sinyangwe is on February 2 this year with intent to deceive or defraud allegedly obtained K 2,500 cash from Jane Phiri pretending that the same money would disappear in her house through black magic.

The matter was adjourned to March 10 for commencement of trial.
