Police in North-Western Province have apprehended seven members of a gang suspected to be responsible for various robberies and break-ins in Solwezi district.

NW Province commissioner of police Luckson Sakala confirmed this yesterday, adding:

“We had a gang that was terrorizing the district, stealing goods worth thousands of Kwacha but we have apprehended seven of them,” he said.

Mr. Sakala said after arresting seven of the nine-member gang, the police have recovered various goods that were stolen.

He said the police had in the past month recorded a high number of robberies and break-ins by the same group.

“In the past month as police we recorded a lot of break-ins and we decided to vigorously look into the issue and we discovered it was one gang carrying out the raids,” he said. Mr. Sakala said the criminals were yet to lead the police to some areas where the goods were being stored in Ndola, Kitwe and Chingola.

He said police were yet to make more recoveries with the direction and assistance of the suspects.

Mr. Sakala noted that two of the gang members were still at large and a manhunt had since been instituted.

He assured the victims of the robberies that police would recover more items with the cooperation of the suspects.
