A UNIVERSITY of Zambia natural sciences lecturer accused of causing the death of Greenford Mucheleng’anga and Elias Chalwe has been committed to the High Court for trial.

Dr.  Gershom Chishimba was yesterday committed to the High Court where he is expected to take plea after the State prosecutor Febby Kalala informed the court that she had received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to commit Dr. Chishimba to the High Court for  commencement of  trial on murder charges.

Dr. Chishimba  had been appearing before Lusaka Magistrate Jennifer Bwalya for mention awaiting instructions from the DDP chambers.

Ms Bwalya read out the charges of two counts of manslaughter to Dr. Chishimba  and was asked whether he had understood the charges leveled against him and he responded in the affirmative.

Following the explanation of the charges, Dr Chishimba could not proceed to take plea because the matter could only be tried in the High Court.

It is alleged in the first count that Dr Chishimba on December 27, 2013 in Lusaka, unlawfully caused the death of Mr Mucheleng’anga.

The allegation in the second count is that Dr Chishimba on the same material day caused the death of Elias Chalwe.
