THE Presidential Empowerment Initiative Fund will save marketeers and vendors from being exploited by some money lending institution that always demand high interest from whatever amount of money marketeers borrow from them, Central Province Permanent Secretary Daisy Nkhata Ngambi has said.
And a Kabwe businessman Patrick Pinyolo, who developed his businesses through the Citizens Economic Empowerment programme under the MMD, has advised marketeers in the area to seize the opportunity being provided by President Edgar Lungu and grow their businesses.
Ms Ngambi said the presidential empowerment initiative fund was a right way of helping the marketeers and vendors to grow their businesses and save them from being exploited by some money lending institutions who always wanted to make a fortune out of the poor marketeers .
She was speaking in Kabwe when patron of the marketeers and vendors Chanda Kabwe paid a courtesy call on her before holding a series of meetings in Bwacha, Nakoli, Kasanda, Njanji, Green markets and other markets in the area.
“This Presidential Empowerment Initiative Fund is a good programme because it will help marketeers and vendors to grow their businesses.
“It is a good programme because, apart from marketeers growing their businesses, it will save them from being exploited by some money lending institutions who demand high interest.
“This is an opportunity for marketeers and they should put it to good use. I must salute you, Mr Kabwe, as patron of the marketeers for spearheading this programme and bringing it to Central Province,” Ms Ngambi said. And speaking during the tour of the markets, Mr Kabwe said the programme was not political, but was solely aimed at helping the marketeers and vendors to improve their businesses.
“This programme is not looking at political, tribal or religious affiliations, but it is looking at helping marketeers boost their businesses. So don’t allow people to bring politics in this programme, they just want to confuse you
“President Lungu cares about you and this is why he has decided to bring this initiative.Don’t waste time on politics, you will not eat politics,” Mr Kabwe said. And Mr Pinyolo told marketeers in Kabwe to seize the opportunity provided by President Lungu and exploit it to the fullest.
He said the Presidential Empowerment Initiative just like the CEEC programme under the MMD was aimed at empowering marketeers and vendors to improve their businesses.
“The problem we have as Zambians is that we want to perceive everything as political. Whether political or not, let us utilize the opportunity presented before us to the fullest and benefit ourselves. This opportunity presented before marketeers is a good opportunity which can benefit those who are serious.
“For me, I can tell you that I managed to develop my business after getting money from CEEC which was equally not taken serious by many Zambians. So am urging my fellow Zambians to take the Presidential empowerment initiative seriously and utilize it to the fullest,” Mr Pinyolo said.
