…he can’t condemn anybody over violence
WYNTER Kabimba is a wrong person to condemn President Edgar Lungu on violence because the country witnessed rampant lawlessness at the time he was Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general, says National Revolution Party (NRP) president Cosmo Mumba.
And Dr. Mumba said Mr. Kabimba should be ashamed of himself for condemning the constitution-making process when he failed to provide a road map for the enactment of the Constitution he was now condemning.
He said Zambians were not gullible and know that Mr Kabimba’s past record still haunted him as his supporters in the ruling party at the time rained havoc on innocent people perceived as enemies who deterred him from achieving his ambition of ruling the country.
Dr Mumba said it was wrong for Mr. Kabimba to play the saint when not long ago PF party cadres wielding machetes were in the habit of intimidating opponents within and outside the PF.
He said that the Rainbow Party leader was being insincere by accusing President Lungu of violence because the Head of State had continually called for peace ahead of the 2016 elections.
“Under Mr Kabimba, the PF was the most violent party Zambia had ever known because there was lawlessness among cadres where issues of attacks on opponents and land grabbing were the order of the day, yet he justified these evil acts.
‘‘If the PF had not acted decisively, the trend could have continued even today but we thank the leaders of the ruling party for acting to end violence.
“It is wrong for Mr. Kabimba to accuse President Lungu of supporting violence when time and again the Head of State has appealed for peace among political parties. This man is not being sincere in his accusations because he thinks that Zambians have forgotten how he tolerated violence during his tenure,” Dr. Mumba said.
He said President Lungu had demonstrated that he was a good leader who could not be compared to those who were condemning them because he had led the country with integrity and respect for the rule of law.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mumba said Mr. Kabimba should be the last person to condemn the amended Constitution because he shelved it when he was Minister of Justice and wondered where he was getting the courage from to condemn the work that other people had done which he failed to do.
“He is being insincere because he failed to do anything when the document was in his hands. He should not think that all Zambians are ignorant because we know that he did not want the Constitution to be amended for reasons better known by him,” he said.
