THE Lusaka Magistrates court has ordered the director of Merit Engineering Services Limited to pay K26,590 in instalments of K3,000 per month to the Workers Compensation Control Board Fund as statutory assessments for eligible workers.

John Musonda was fined by Magistrate Muzambalika Simwatachela after he admitted failing to pay statutory assessments to WCCBF for a period of six years.

Musonda told the court that he understood the charges which were leveled against him and admitted failing to pay the said amount to the fund.

Fining him, Mr Simwatachela said he had taken note that Musonda was a first offender who readily admitted the charge without wasting the court’s time and for that reason he was entitled to leniency.

He however warned Musonda not to ever default to pay for his eligible workers the statutory fees as it was law that the fees should be paid.

Mr Simaatachela said next time Musonda appears in court with the similar offense he would not hesitate to give him a huge fine.

Musonda was facing four counts of failing to pay statutory assessments to the board for the financial period 2010 to 2016.

He admitted all the four counts as charged.
