NEW irrigation technologies, farming equipment and utility vehicles are some of the highlights of the Agritech Expo to be held in Chisamba in April.
The Agritech Expo Zambia is now the leading outdoor exhibition in the region which is expected to enhance the viability of farming operations in the country.
And NWK Agri-Services chief executive officer Pierre Lombard said the agricultural sector in Zambia was a dynamic undertaking that had contributed greatly to Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“What makes it exciting are interests people and companies are having in the country and the opportunities to expand and improve on current activities in the agriculture sector,” Mr Lombard said.
He said there were thousands of small scale and emergent farmers contributing to agricultural output.
Mr Lombard said with help and guidance, farmers had the potential to grow and increase their contribution and therefore contribute to the development of the economy as a whole.
On the drought that Zambia was currently facing, he said if the country allowed for free trade in imports and exports and stability as well as free floating in the Zambian currency, it would mitigate any yield loss by a possible increase in price.
Agritech Expo has been hugely influential in exposing the community to new technology and driving forward the advancement of modern farming in Zambia.
The country’s leading outdoor agriculture exhibition will this year host about 15,000 farming professionals, emerging, small holder and commercial farmers as well as agri experts.
