THE Attorney General and the Minister of Justice should resign on moral grounds if they have given Zambians an incomplete Constitution, Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Copperbelt chairman Yotam Mtayachalo has said.
He said it was the duty of the Attorney General Likando Kaluluka who was the chief legal advisor to ensure the Government handed over a complete document to the Head of State.
“If there are any problems in the Constitution which people have raised I feel that the blame should be apportioned on the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice because the Attorney General is the chief legal advisor for Government,” Mr Mtayachalo said. He said if the Attorney General and the Justice Minister had done a poor job, President Lungu should have fired them for allegedly embarrassing him.
‘‘The Attorney General should have ensured that the document was taken to Parliament and also to the President, they allowed the President to assent to the Bill when the Minister of Justice and Attorney General had not done their work and if I was President Lungu myself I was going to fire them for embarrassing me,” Mr Mtayachalo said.
He said Government should not think of amending the Constitution because it could erode investor confidence.
Mr Mtayachalo said that such decisions might compel the investors to fear that the country was inconsistent.
