Felix Mutati has been challenged to call for a UPND convention where he can compete for leadership instead of causing confusion in the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD).
The last time the UPND held a convention was in 2006 and therefore time had come for the opposition party to hold a convention where people like Mutati and others could compete for the leadership, MMD National Treasurer and NEC Member Elizabeth Chitika has said.
Ms Chitika said Mr Mutati was fighting for a convention in the wrong party because recent 2016 campaign materials suggested that he was now in the UPND.
She said Mr Mutati must therefore not waste time but push for a UPND convention before it was too late. Ms Chitika suggested that the fight for a convention by Mr Mutati was embarrassing to the UPND as the Lunte MP was in a mix up as to which party he belonged to.
She said the fight for an MMD convention by Mr Mutati was a fight in futility and advised the Lunte MP to kiss the MMD goodbye and join other members who have openly said they would not stand on MMD tickets in this years general elections. She called on the UPND leadership to assist Mr Mutati make the decision to move.
“He must be helped to move on becasue his conduct is embarrassing to both the image of the UPND and its leadership. The UPND leadership must act and help Mr. Mutati face the consequences of his actions when he openly campaigned for HH in 2015 and reassure him that he has been welcomed in UPND instead of clinging to the MMD,” Ms. Chitika said.
She charged that the convention issue in the MMD had dragged because Mr Mutati had not been courageous enough to come out in the open and state his position as to whether he supported Dr Mumba or not.
“He is not a courageous politician and is usually paralysed by fear of the unknown and prefers to push his hidden agenda through other people and this is the issue the UPND must be aware of as they welcome him in the party’’ Ms Chitika said.
