Bad language chases ‘hubby’

A Local Court in Lusaka heard how a man lost interest in his wife after she told him that she made a mistake to have a child with him.

This was heard in Kanyama Local Court in a case in which Susan Bwalya of John Laing compound sued her husband, Jouster Phiri for divorce.

The two got married in 2012 and they have one child. Dowry was paid.

Bwalya told Senior Court Magistrate Daniel Phiri sitting with Magistrates Sarah Nyendwa and Ackim Phiri that all was well just for six months.

She explained that Phiri stopped spending nights in the matrimonial home and would deny her conjugal rights.

In cross-examination, Bwalya said that she doesn’t know why Phiri doesn’t want to make love to her.

Asked by the court for how long she has been denied conjugal rights, Bwalya said that for two years and six months.

In defence, Phiri said Bwalya is not a responsible wife and that she doesn’t know how to perform house chores.

He explained that he called elderly relatives to sit with Bwalya so that she could be tutored about marriage but to no avail.

Phiri narrated that there was a day when he wanted to make love to Bwalya but she told him that she made a mistake to have a child with him.

Asked by Bwalya why he doesn’t want to make love to her, Phiri said that because she was not an early riser.

Phiri also said Bwalya has not apologized for her remarks she made a mistake to have a child with him.

In submission, Bwalya said she just wanted a divorce.  Phiri said that he did not want to divorce Bwalya. Magistrate Daniel Phiri adjourned the matter to a later date for judgment.
