THE Government has been urged to move expeditiously to arrest the rot and imminent collapse of ZAMTEL, senior management officials have warned.

But Transport and Communication minister Kapembwa Simbao said he could not comment on Zamtel crisis because the firm was now under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

Mr Simbao said the Industrial Development Corporation was better placed to talk about the alleged mismanagement of ZAMTEL.

But Zamtel senior officials have charged that the situation at the company was deteriorating by the day. “Even if normal internet service is restored today many parts of the country, including areas of Lusaka, will remain off service because the company is unable to provide standby power service.

“What is required is a thorough forensic audit that will show the extent to which management decisions have been made and their effect on the performance of the company.”
